Woman invents tray to help amputees eating with no help

Shared by Elise Thioliere on 2017-06-09 08:44

About the solution

In 1997, Rita was deprived of one of her arm during two years following a work accident. She severed her arm with a circular saw. She was marked by her loss of autonomy. For this woman who loves cooking, the period just after the accident was really frustrating: she couldn’t help anyone in the kitchen. Every small task she did everyday became a real challenge for her.

This is why, when she found the use of her arm again, she decided to create a nonskid tray. The latter is equipped with stonemason’s picks which allow people to hold, peel and cut food. Moreover, the tray has a removable plate, and special shelves for glasses and yogurts.

The tray exists for right-handed and left-handed people.

According to Rita, this innovation can be useful for amputees, but also for Parkinson’s disease patients and people who are visually impaired.
