Man creates app inspired by his grandfather with dementia

Shared by Ana Duarte on 2017-06-30 15:41

About the solution

Roger founded his own company, after taking care of his grandfather for seven years. He created his company alongside Patrick Renner and Susanne Mitschke, who both volunteered in care centres. They goal was to create a technology that would improve the patient’s quality of life, as well as their caregivers’.

By stimulating the user’s cognitive abilities, individuals living with memory problems such as Alzheimer's and other types of dementia will find an engaging and interactive way to stimulate brain activity. The app features games, a tool to keep personal memories and information, tips about food and physical exercises, and a tv and music section.

Francisco started to forget things when he was 70 years old. It was not long until Carmen, Francisco's wife, kept pictures and tried to save records of her husband’s life but most of it has gotten lost.

Roger remembers how hard it was to take care of his grandfather, as his family was not prepared and had no help. Roger’s biggest wish was that he knew more about his grandpa’s past and that there was more left of his story or life.

That’s why he wanted to create a way to tell him that he was safe, and that all the information important to his grandfather and family was safe. But also to invent a tool that supports the patient and family in their everyday life and keeps them engaged.

The app is free and available for iOS.

While dementia is progressively fundamental as individuals become more established (up to half shockingly developed at least 85 built up may have some kind of dementia), it's definitely not a conventional bit of assignment writing Numerous individuals live into their 90s and past without any indications of dementia.

A great application for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's and their families/parental figures. The application shows that they care about and consider the different needs of this group. Much appreciated, MindMate.
